The bottom part of the photo is obviously not supposed to look like that, it’s a scanning error. How it managed to slip through all the way to Cornell University Library’s Flickr page I don’t know, but one can assume that when it comes to archiving negatives (and mass-uploading to Flickr) much is done by automation.
