Encounters at the End of the World
If you only see one of this year’s Oscar-nominated documentaries, make sure it’s Werner Herzog’s wonderful film Encounters at the End of the World and not the wildly overrated and much hyped (as well as probable Oscar winner next month) Man on Wire. Herzog brings his unique sensibility, humor and narrating accent to the end of the world, Antarctica, where he in his own way...

“A collection of unexpected photography.”
Love that tagline.
“Her Morning Elegance”, by Oren Lavie. A lovely bit of stopmotion to start off the day.
NYC Lomo Gallery Store, Part II
So I went to the Lomography Gallery Store after work, and while it was smaller than I thought it would be, if you’re in the market for Lomography cameras and feel that Urban Outfitters have too poor a selection (which is true) they have pretty much all models/colours you could ask for. They also sell film, though not all they sell online from what I could tell, as well as accessories, books,...

Appropriateness
It seems only appropriate to be listening to my playlist of 80s hits when I’m coding HTML email templates without using CSS.

NYC Lomo Gallery Store →
A heads-up to analog photography lovers in the New York area: the Lomographic Society International have just opened up a gallery store in New York. It’s located on 41 West 8th Street, just a few blocks north of Washington Square Park. I really want to go check it out tonight after work, but the weather sucks.
Titanic Sex
Someone must’ve had Titanic sex on the Q train this morning. The evidence: foggy windows, hot and sweaty.
When it comes to sex my only rule is no ifs, ands, or butts. Literally.

Bummed Out
I’m bummed out because I missed the William Eggleston exhibit at the Whitney Museum, and I only have myself to blame because I kept procrastinating about going and now it’s too late. D’oh…

The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn
That’s the title of Steven Spielberg’s next film. Quite a mouthful. It just started shooting today, apparently. Even though I loved Tintin as a kid, and with Spielberg behind the wheel (AND Peter Jackson producing), I can’t help but think “what the hell?”. Oh yeah, it’s being shot in motion capture 3D too, though I have no idea if it’s going to be animated...

January Blues
I don’t know what it’s about January, but it’s always the least creative month of the year for me. This year didn’t start off great either, having a flu that sapped me of all energy to do anything, but I still haven’t gotten my groove back. I know I keep whining about it, but it’s frustrating. Today is a beautiful, albeit chilly, sunny day here in New York and...

Most Memorable Sight
There were many memorable sights of today’s inauguration (and I sure hope The Big Picture is on it to deliver some awesome photos sooner than later), but for me, the most memorable sight of the day was seeing the Obamas and Bidens together on the steps of the Capitol building as former president Bush is flown off into the sunset.
As much as today marks the beginning of something new and...

Restroom for Samurais only.
– Misreading a restaurant door sign that actually said “Samurai’s customers only.”

Fight Night
There’s a small electronics store down in the Times Square subway station here in New York, and every time I pass by (which is not every day, but perhaps a few times per week) there are always a few people, sometimes more than a few, standing outside of it watching what appears to be historic boxing games that the electronics store is repeatedly playing on it’s storefront tv screens....

Slamdunk Millionaire
Curious thing today was going to the nearby Subway restaurant at lunch and seeing the all-Indian crew there looking exceedingly happy and chipper (they look quite glum otherwise). Quickly I realized that it must be because Slumdog Millionaire, a source of national pride in India now apparently, won all the big prizes at last night’s Golden Globes. I could’ve even sworn I heard them...

The L Train
So this morning when I wandered down to the subway it turned out the L train wasn’t running into Manhattan because of some undetermined electrical outage. With the L train being the only train running directly from Williamsburg into Manhattan from where I live, this led me on a three-train, three-borough journey this morning to get to work. You’d think this would mean getting really...
