Where dreams go to die.
– My slogan proposal for Long Island City.
Going Out With A Whimper
Looks like my (possibly one and only) New Year’s Eve in New York will be spent in bed rather than celebrating. I’ve been in bed since yesterday, and it’s so boring, especially since the internet has gone on vacation. I’m feeling a bit better, but I have little hope of recovering enough by tomorrow to actually want to party. Not that I’m much of a party guy anyway, but...

NYT: The Year in Pictures →
The New York Times sums up the year in pictures. Not as epic as The Big Picture’s three-part year-end round-up, but well worth checking out.
Benjamin Button Boxoffice Bonanza
I’ve been wanting to see The Curious Case of Benjamin Button for the past two days, only to have the screenings at the theater I want to see it at sell out way in advance (and I refuse to do the Fandango thing because I’m a Scrooge who refuses to pay more to buy them online when it should be the other way around). It’s playing everywhere and all the time, of course, but being a...

Christmas Lunch at IKEA
I’m having Christmas lunch (meatballs!) at a fairly desolate IKEA in Red Hook, and next I’m raiding their food store for everything they got! Despite the rain, I think it will be a nice Christmas after all.
P.S. Sorry for twittering.

Why, Oh Why?
Why did I ever think it would be a good idea to go to Rockefeller Center the day before Christmas Eve and check out the tree (since I hadn’t already)? Mobbed doesn’t even begin to describe it, the tree is much smaller than I thought it would be and the lights they have on it are terribly unflattering. Not a very jolly experience at all, but at least I’ve seen it and can check...

New Yorkers
Having lived here in New York for awhile now, I have to say that the reputation New Yorkers have as being rude and unfriendly is a completely unfair one. The vast majority of New Yorkers I’ve encountered and talked with have been nothing but friendly and helpful. I’ve had so many quick exchanges with complete strangers in this city, be it in shops or on the street, and I’ve yet...

Corporate Christmas
You know your boss is a cool guy when even the interns at his company get a Christmas bonus, especially this year when the economy here in the U.S. has taken a major turn for the worse.
And not only did we get a nice little Christmas bonus, at lunch yesterday (where we got to feast on a six feet long sub, the kind of sub I only thought existed in myth) our boss got us all t-shirts from...
New York Public Library on Flickr →
All the lovely B&W photos I’ve been posting today and yesterday come from the New York Public Library, who just joined Flickr’s The Commons. These particular photos I posted were all taken by Berenice Abbott for her project Changing New York, which was part of a Depression-era government program called FAP (Federal Art Project).
The Commons now features thousands of historic...

Bananas
I just dressed up in a bellboy hat and played a monkey here at work; dancing, ooh-ing and jumping around all in the name of getting people’s honest laughs on camera (for a project we’re working on). My cue to enter the room (where the unsuspecting victim was being photographed) was “Bananas”.
Ah, the life of the intern.
Flight of the Conchords: Season 2, Episode 1 →
The first episode of the new season is available on funnyordie.com from today until the 21st. Can’t wait to see this when I get off from work! Why is it only 11am?! Gah.
P.S. It only works in the US, unfortunately.
